Sirhan Sirhan sort of like Duran Duran is a good way to interpret Bill Leff’s funny Facebook post from last week.
Leff, from Chicago, is the host of “Toon In With Me” on Metv and a former WGN Radio show host. Here is what he wrote on Facebook:
“I wasn’t sold on letting Sirhan Sirhan out of prison, but if it means more hits like Hungry Like the Wolf, and Girls On Film, I say GO FOR IT!”
Not funny last week was Rob Beschizza’s Boing Boing post about Sirhan Sirhan and Robert Kennedy.
This is what Beschizza wrote:
“Sirhan Sirhan shot and killed Robert Kennedy in 1968, saving him from a humiliating election defeat by Richard Nixon that would have forever changed American political life. Today Sirhan was granted parole.”
How many things are wrong with that paragraph?
The first wrong:
“…saving him from a humiliating election defeat by Richard Nixon…”
The second wrong:
“,,,would have forever changed American political life.”
The third wrong:
“Today Sirhan was granted parole.“
Because Kennedy was assassinated, he was saved. This makes absolutely no sense.
It’s difficult to suppose Nixon would have trounced Kennedy. You know, had Kennedy lived, he might have beat Nixon, and that would have forever changed American political life, though Nixon actually changed American political life but not for the best.
Sirhan was granted parole is a mistake that Beschizza made.
One of the comments under the Beschizza post was “Rob is joking, but it has not gone down well.”
